All you have to do to be a Skillbasket Beta tester, is to spare a few minutes of your time to try out Skillbasket beta and provide constructive feedback, which will help us optimise the the site for future users. In return for your help we would like to offer free use of the Skillbasket service in the future you never know, free use of Skillbasket could lead to untold riches
There are Four great ways your input will really make a difference:
To register simply go to http://beta.skillbasket.com and click the Sign up link either in the top right corner, or on the tab and ribbon. This will take you through a series of steps where you fill in your details, skills and your personal statement.
After that, you will be directed to the Desk page where you will be able to manage your job engagements as you begin to use the service; with Messages, Jobs list and an Availability/Diary calendar amongst other features.
Note that to get the most out of Sb you should keep your list of skills updated and weighted as well as keep an eye in the New's Feed/Messages for notifications relating to jobs and contacts.
Ideally you will have some skills that you would like to put in to action by engaging with other people, at this stage they don’t have to be “financially gainful” – testing between friends or ‘fake’ jobs if you like , will be just as useful to us in fixing bugs and processes in SkillBasket as real ones. We want SkillBasket to be a positive experience for everyone involved. So you can tell the SkillBasket community of your skills, what you enjoy doing and are prepared to do for others.
Although we’re in a “private” testing phase and not ready to put out to the general public quite yet, we would still like to encourage you to invite any of your friends, family and contacts to pilot the service now. SkillBasket relies on having at least some people using it in order for its purpose to become apparent, and partly because as a tool for everybody, we would like to pilot it with a healthy range of people with different skills and needs.
All comments about Skillbasket, are more than welcome – from the smallest design details to the bugs. Every comment or suggestion will help us! But if you’re not sure how to or what to send back our way, we’ve prepared some outlines which you may find helpful to follow.
“Testing describes using the product or service and reporting back with objective feedback on one hand and your personal views and suggestions on the other”
If you know what you want to tell us please jump straight in! But if you're not sure how to go about it you can t ry breaking down your feedback in to the following 3 topics; this will help ensure you encompass your personal opinion as well as objective reporting:
We would like to know from you if the concept of Skillbasket is useful to you, if you would feel comfortable using it and if you think other people you know might like to use it. Answering these would be great – and if you have any comments that you would like to add then be our guest!
To provide feedback – then simply leave your user name and comments at www.skillbasket .com/feedback or email at ben@skillbasket.com
Since we are only half way there, many of the presentation aspects are temporary and will need to change at some point. Your feedback can help us better shape the next version as well as help us understand how you would like to use this service.
This section is all about the usability of Skillbasket so for example:
- Is it easy to use?
- Do the website actions flow easily?
- Do you get lost or confused at certain points?
- Do all the links connect to the right places?
- Is the language easy to understand?
- Does Skillbasket look and feel like a website you would want to spend time on?
Example: Finding a person to do your tax would require that you write a job description, publish it and send it to suitable candidates. So does the website currently allow you do this easily? And if not what would you change?
Some of the aspects that we are looking to evaluate under Experience at this stage could come under the following headings:
- The Copy; this is the written explanations presented to the user across the site at all the different stages.
- Tooltips; these are the little pop up suggestions and helpers you get when pausing the cursor over certain elements, such as buttons and icons.
- The Wizards; buttons that when pressed lead you through a series of forms or sequence of pages with specific fields that you fill in and should make it easier to carry out an action. They are supposed to make the input of details and data needed more understandable and story like.
- Layout and Sections; this would be the way the features are presented throughout the site, are they clearly placed and identified? Do they make sense? Should they be broken down differently across the different sections and are the sections clear? (ie My Desk:Messages, My Desk:Jobs List, My Desk:Calendar, Search etc; is it sufficiently clear and how could it be better?)
- The process of engaging others; how easy this is, or how complicated the process is. This process of hiring should be intuitive and easy – any detail on this process is invaluable to us. The more situations and experiences that are communicated to us, the quicker we can amend the fault
We welcome your thoughts, suggestions and criticisms of both the existing SkillBasket process and any other methods that you encounter outside of SkillBasket.
You can leave your SkillBakset experiences at www.skillbasket.com/feedback. Or email ben@skillbasket.com, the more comments – the better!
This thread is dedicated to reporting any functionality anomalies, broken or non-responsive features, which may give error messages, show broken pages or components or simply not respond as expected.
The best way to do this is to use the “Web Dev Wiki” (This is in the side bar on the right hand side of the screen - above contacts if your account is set up as tester) This is like a note pad for every different page where you can add your remarks by clicking edit, changing the text and hitting submit to save the new comment. If you’re familiar with how wiki’s work, it’s pretty much the same, only we’ve adapted it to act as a comments pad.
To report a bug, you simply add a description of what happened when you did what and include what OS and web browser you are using, and don’t forget to hit the submit button.
There might be other people’s comments on there so please be careful not to delete those! If this doesn’t work for you, just email the description at ben@skillbasket.com.
